In a tragic event in the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand, six individuals lost their lives and four others are reported missing after a tractor-trolley overturned while crossing the Tons River. The victims hailed from the village of Mudhiya Jain in the Bilari tehsil of Moradabad district.
According to Mamta Malviya, the Additional District Magistrate (Finance), the tractor-trolley capsized due to strong currents in the river while attempting to cross in the Vikasnagar area of Dehradun.
The deceased have been identified as Farmaan, Somvati, Reena, Harcharan, Naresh, and Madan. Additionally, four individuals, namely Hariom, Rajkumar, Kiran, and Sundari, are still unaccounted for.
Malviya confirmed that the Uttarakhand government will provide financial assistance to the families of the victims. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also announced a compensation of two lakh rupees for each family affected by this tragedy.
In a message shared on social media, Adityanath expressed his condolences, stating, 'The loss of lives in the unfortunate accident in the Tons River in Dehradun is deeply saddening. My heartfelt sympathies are with the bereaved families. I have instructed officials to provide two lakh rupees in financial aid to the families of the deceased and ensure the dignified return of each body to their homes.'
He further prayed for the departed souls to find peace and for the injured to recover swiftly. Preeti Singh, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Thakurdwara, mentioned that post-mortem examinations are being conducted on the deceased.
